Prenatal Class:
As a local L&D nurse and Lactation Consultant, I’ve now partnered with other Registered Nurses in the Edmonton-area to bring you a comprehensive, in-person Labour, Delivery and Breastfeeding class in St.Albert & Spruce Grove.
With backgrounds in pregnancy, labour, delivery, postpartum, and lactation care, the instructors bring a wide range of knowledge and expertise!
This one-day Prenatal class will leave you feeling prepared and informed during your labour, delivery and postpartum journey. We will walk you through natural, physiological, and medical processes, interventions, and terminology so that you can feel confident about your baby’s birth! We will also equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to start your journey in infant care and feeding.
Topics covered in this class include:
Third trimester changes- what to expect and when to seek help
When to go to the hospital and what to bring
Anatomy of Labour- what to expect at every stage
Partner/Support Person: how to provide great labour support before, during, and after birth
Medication-free Labour and Birth- physically and mentally prepare and manage, labour positioning and movement
Pharmacological pain management: pain medication options and epidural
Induction of labour- reasons and options for induction
Informed Consent- questions to ask to ensure you are fully consenting to any recommended interventions
Pushing: positioning, technique, breathing
Delivery Interventions: reasons and expectations for C-sections, forcep and vacuum delivery
What happens Immediately after delivery: assessments for you and baby before you go home
Newborn Care: diaper changes, swaddling, bathing, umbilical cord care
Newborn Sleep: expectations, what is normal?
